Whats on in Darwin

Well Glenti is here in Darwin this weekend – thats “Festival” in Greek – so we probably shouldn’t make the mistake of calling it the “Glenti Festival” which would translate as the “Festival Festival” !There’s octopus, lamb and chicken souvla, Yiros, Honey Puffs, Baklava and my personal favourite Greek sweet – Bougatsa …. Music and dancing and general good times – get down to the esplanade this weekend if you can and enjoy the festivities.

Did you know that approximately 10% of the Darwin population has a Greek background and that the Greeks first arrived in Darwin in with George Goyders survey vessel in 1869, with the first permanent settlers here in the 1910’s?

Next week the V8’s arrive in Darwin for their annual round here and Darwin becomes a busy, thriving mini metropolis with all sorts of entertainment – The Veronicas will be performing along with Jimmy Barnes.

While you’re here why not come and join one of our tours – why not Do Darwin Differently – from the back of a WW2 army truck – the only commercially operated WW2 vehicle in Australia. We leave from outside Tourism Top End, the Visitor Information Centre on Bennett Street at the far end of the Smith Street mall.
